Bahraini Regime Breaches Code of Criminal Procedures: Unfair Trials
The first session of the Fourth Human Rights International Conference started Thursday in Beirut headed by Omman Center for Human Rights Studies, Assaf Netham.
Speakers in the first session include three lawyers, the Bahraini Jasem Serhan, the Jordanian Samih Khreis, and the Egyptian Mohammad Zarea'.
Serhan emphasized that human violations in Bahrain present a serious breaching of criminal procedures, because the detainee is being prisoned and banned from communicating with parents.
"He is subjected to torture and inhumane and degrading treatment.. in addition to not giving the Defense the files relevant to detainee's case," Serhan said.
For his part, Khreis tackled the contradiction between practices of the Bahraini authorities and recommendations of the international investigation committee headed by Sharif Basiouni.
"The Bahraini constitution stressed the principles of Justice, equality, guaranteeing freedom, and social solidarity, as well as the people's right to enjoy political participation and create political associations," he noted.
Khreis also pointed at the arrest of Sheikh Ali Salman, Secretary General of al-Wefaq opposition group, stating that accusations do not relate to the elements and conditions of a crims, calling for raising voices and talking to the Bahraini king Hamad bin Issa Al-Khalifa to release all those who were detained since the beginning of crisis in Bahrain, and to force him to adhere to the sovereignty of law and the constitution.
The Egyptian lawyer Mohammad Zarea' addressed the unfair trails in Bahrain, particulary the Sheikh Ali Salman's as a case study, stating that the trial "contradicts with the international justice perspective, considering Sheikh Salman an emblem of prisoners of conscious in Bahrain and in the world.
