Bahrain Forum for Human Rights: 11 Bahraini female detainees and the Bahraini authorities put them among targets of political revenge
The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights (BFHR) said that there are 11 Bahraini females from nine regions detained for political reasons on charges relating to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and some of them were subjected to torture and ill-treatment during interrogation sessions. The BFHR pointed out that the Bahraini authorities put the Bahraini woman among the targets of political revenge, and more than 340 Bahraini women have been subjected to arbitrary detention on political grounds since 2011. The BFHR noted that the detainees are the following: Taiba Darwish (Malikya) sentenced to 5 years in prison, Faten Hussein (Manama-detained), human rights defender Ibtisam Al-Sayegh (Manama - detained), Mona Habib (Arad - detained), Amira Al-Qashemi (Barbar-detained), Hamida Jumua (Al-Maqsha - detained), Hajar Mansour (Ras Rumman-detained), Iman Ali (Diraz-detained), Fatima Ali (Diraz-detained), Madina Ali (Al Qurayyah-detained), Najah Al-Sheikh (Nuwaidrat-detained). The BFHR concluded that “Women are being arrested from homes in humiliating ways and times, in which the most basic rules for dealing with women are not being taken into account. The report of the Independent Commission of Inquiry documented earlier a number of cases that revealed shocking crimes and abuses against Bahraini women committed by the security forces and members of the Security Services at checkpoints, in attacks on homes, in detention and on public streets, in violation of the national law, customs, traditions and international conventions.” Bahrain Forum for Human Rights 7/11/2017 |
