A human rights commentary on the issue of prisoners of conscience (1): #Bahrain’s human rights record shows that the issue of prisoners of conscience formed a basis for the production and development of many violations, including: individual violations, collective violations, and violations affecting the victim’s relatives. In addition, this helped increase the danger of the policy of impunity, which is increasingly gaining political and judicial immunity, which created a new class of those involved in violations, including civilians along with security personnel. Some prison violations in recent years can be summarized by the following: * Torture and ill-treatment. * Isolation in solitary confinement. * Denial of medical treatment, which takes many forms: prevention from seeing a specialized doctor, refusal of the prison clinic to provide treatment, neglect to provide treatment and medications. * Deprivation of the participation in funeral and burial ceremonies for first-degree relatives. In addition, there are many other forms of violations that prompted prisoners to protest or send their complaints via voice messages. There are still hundreds in need of immediate and unconditional release; and more than 20,000 cases, who have been subjected to arbitrary detention since 2011, have a right to reparation and compensation. It is noteworthy that 59 citizens, including 16 minors, were arrested between January and May of this year. |
