Darwish: 627 Positions for the Ruling Family Between November 1970 and June 2021 During his participation, Baqer Darwish, Chairman of the BFHR, focused on discrimination in government appointments to senior positions through limiting a number of government jobs to the ruling family (Al Khalifa). 627 appointments between November 08, 1970 and June 17, 2021 were monitored, the most prominent of which are leadership positions in: Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Supreme Defense Council, Supreme Council for Women, Bahrain Defense Force, National Security Agency, in addition to some service ministries. Rebai: 142 members, including 19 women, of 11 families close to the ruling family, 10 of which are Sunni, were appointed to senior official positions The meeting was followed by a brief virtual session with non-governmental organizations on November 17, 2022, in which the BFHR participated represented by researcher Ghina Rebai. In her speech, Rebai provided a statistical explanation with numbers and details about the appointments of family members close to the ruling family in high official positions, and the sectarian and sexual discrimination included in those appointments. "142 individuals, including only 19 women, all belong to 11 families close to the ruling family, 10 of which are Sunni, were appointed to senior official positions between 1972 and 2021," she pointed out. Rebai also explained how the Civil Service Bureau – which is entrusted with accepting and rejecting employment applications – works and pointed out to the sectarianism that is included in its employment criteria.
