The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights (BFHR) said that there is a significant increase in the number of enforced disappearances in October, as they reached 18 cases from 5 Bahraini areas. The BFHR noted that enforced disappearance is an additional humanitarian crime in the Bahraini government's record of violations, and that the security authorities deliberately create new types of violations to pressure prisoners of conscience and their families, such as preventing the victims' families from knowing the fate of their sons after being subjected to enforced disappearance. The BFHR said that the most prominent cases of enforced disappearance are the following: Sayed Fadhel Abbas Radhi from Malkiyah, who has been subjected to enforced disappearance for 378 days since September 29, 2016, and Sayed Alawi Hussein al-Musawi, who has been subjected to enforced disappearance for 353 days since October 24, 2016. The BFHR explained that the longest enforced disappearances since the outbreak of the crisis in 2011 continued even though the Bahraini authorities claimed that they have accepted some recommendations during the UPR of Bahrain this year. The BFHR added that some of the cases which were concurrent with the crackdown on the peaceful gathering in Duraz are: Mohammed Abdul-Hassan al-Motaghawi, who has been missing for 142 days, and Mohammed Abdul Hussein al-Shehabi, who has been missing for 141 days, and they are both from Duraz. The BFHR expressed concerns that they are being deprived of the rights stated in the UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, explaining that counting long days without any legal justification confirms that there are retaliation measures taken against them. The BFHR pointed out that there are 3 cases of enforced disappearance from Snabis area since October 3, 2017, who are Sadiq Hubail, Ahmed Hubail, and Ali Jawad, and four cases of enforced disappearance from Buri since October 4, 2017, who are Muntather Hassan al-Marrakh, Mohsen Ahmed al-Marakh, Mohammed Hassan al-Fursani, and Nidal Abdullah al-Marri. The BFHR further noted that since October 5, 2017, the area of A’ali witnessed 7 cases of enforced disappearance of the following citizens: Jafar Hassan Ali Al Amm, Mohammed Jafar Al Amm, Nasser Ibrahim, Mohammed Ibrahim, Haidar Abdul Hussain, Sadiq Al Sammak and Mohammed Hussein. The BFHR called on international human rights organizations to pressure the Bahraini authorities to reveal the fate of the forcibly disappeared persons, due to the negative humanitarian impact these procedures leave on the victims and their families.
