The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights (BFHR) said that five Bahraini citizens from three areas: Malkiyah, Duraz, and Sanabis have been subjected to enforced disappearance between September 29, 2016 and September 26, 2017. Sayed Fadhel Abbas Radhi and Sayed Alawi Hussein al-Musawi have been subjected to enforced disappearance for 375 and 332 days respectively.
The BFHR further said: “Enforced disappearance has also been inflicted upon: Mohammed Abdul-Hassan al-Motaghawi, who was arrested on May 23, 2017 and has been subjected to enforced disappearance for 121 days, Mohammed Abdul Hussein al-Shehabi, who was arrested on May 24, 2017 and has been subjected to enforced disappearance for 120 days, and Jassim Abdul Hassan Ramadan, who is from Sanabis and has been subjected to enforced disappearance for 23 days.”
The BFHR noted that the amendments to the Law on the Protection of Society from Terrorist Acts in addition to the Military Judiciary Law allow the security authorities to commit a number of abuses, including the crime of enforced disappearance, in violation of Paragraph 3 of Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
