The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights: Instead of achieving justice, the Bahraini authorities arrest the father of extrajudicial-killing victim, Abdulhadi Mushaima The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights (BFHR) said that instead of initiating justice and redressing the rights of victims of violations, the Bahraini authorities continue to increase arbitrariness in using the judiciary for political reasons. This happened recently to the father of extrajudicial-killing victim, Abdulhadi Mushaima, the BFHR said, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Mushaima and the rest of the prisoners of conscience. “Abdulhadi Mushaima (57 years old), who is the father of extrajudicial-killing victim, Ali Mushaima, was arrested on February 16, 2021, from the courtroom after upholding a 3-month prison sentence against him by the Court of Appeal over the charge of gathering. The initial verdict was issued against him in 2018, on the basis of which he was arrested for the first time on October 12, 2018. He was then arrested on the public street and his detention lasted for one month and ten days, before he was released based on a request submitted by his lawyer requesting a stay of execution of the sentence in order to appeal it,” the BFHR said. “After Mushaima’s arrest on February 16, 2021, he called his family for a few seconds, and then he was forcibly disappeared in the interrogation center first, where he was kept for three days and then transferred to the Dry Dock Prison on February 19, 2021. He was not allowed to contact his family again until after five days have passed since his arrest. Hence, on February 21, 2021, he called for a few minutes from his place of detention at the Dry Dock Prison,” the BFHR added. The BFHR pointed out that one of the violations Mushaima was subjected to after his arrest was not allowing him to obtain all the medication he necessarily needed, knowing that he suffers from several chronic diseases such as diabetes, for which he is treated with insulin injections. This causes him permanent swelling in the feet, and frequent seizures due to the constant drop in blood sugar level. In addition, he suffers from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, glandular disease and liver disease, for which he takes several types of drugs. Bahrain Forum for Human Rights March 4, 2021 |
