 The Bahrain Forum: the Bahrainiauthorities are working on a project of abolishing the Shiite community fromthe political presence by a royal decision The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights(BFHR) said, in a statement, that the recent procedures implemented by theBahraini authorities, including the announcement of the trial of the mostprominent leader of the Shiite community in the Gulf, Ayatollah Sheikh IsaQassem, resolving Al-Wefaq (the largest opposition society), imposingrestrictions on religious freedoms, and the arrest of the Islamic scholar,Sheikh Mohammad Sankour, in front of the largest Friday prayers, due to performingFriday prayers, comes in the context of a project aimed at the abolition of themain component in the country, the Shiite sect, from the political presence.The BFHR held the king of Bahrain directly responsible for these dangerousdevelopments. The BFHR considered that the latestjudicial procedures against Al-Wefaq contradicts the international law and isconsidered a blatant violation of the freedom of political activity. They comeafter the serious undermining of the civil society in the political, humanrights and social fields, and evacuating the civil society from theinstitutions which represent the political majority in Bahrain. “The Bahraini government promotessectarian persecution, and the country is witnessing blatant discriminationthrough a royal decree. In addition to that, there is an institutionalcharacter. The situation of religious freedoms is recording its lowest levels,which holds the international society responsible for its humanitarian duty to defendthe principles of human rights”, the BFHR added. |
