Bahrain Forum for Human Rights: the British support for Bahrain’s government formal measures helps continue the deterioration of Human Rights
In a statement, Bahrain Forum for Human Rights said that, “the British support for Bahrain’s government formal measures through judicial authority and public prosecution’s welcoming of two official delegations in the frame of judicial cooperation between the two countries helps in deteriorating human rights and increasing the violations.”
The statement also mentioned that, “these steps through which they want to implement BICI and Geneva’s recommendations recreate the judicial scene that the office of the high commissioner describes its commands as “political repression”.”
“UK did not exercise real pressures on Bahrain as the Foreign Affairs Committee in the British House of Commons recommended; the thing that explains the Bahraini authorities’ ignorance to a number of international callings that demand to stop violations and tortures,” added the statement. It stressed that, “the victims resulting from the security authorities are increasing and the violations’ types such as dropping the dissents’ nationality for sectarian and political reasons were renewed.”
The Forum also said that, “recommendation 1722 (f) of BICI’s report stipulates to train the judiciary and prosecutorial personnel on the need to ensure that their activities contribute to the prevention and eradication of torture and ill-treatment. However, the held training results won’t affect the issues related to violations as torture complaints, illegal killing and arbitrary arrest. Besides, the results are not new and are attributed to a number of judges who were appointed due to partisanship and favoritism. The judicial body still suffers from sectarian discrimination, where Shiites contribute only to 4% of the judges.” The forum affirmed that using the judges as a tool to punish the dissents will complicate Bahrain’s crisis even more.”
