After the trial of 16 citizens to life imprisonment
The Bahrain Forum of Human Rights: the Bahraini authorities use the judiciary to issue ironic sentences
The Bahrain Forum of Human Rights said that the Bahraini authorities insisted on using the judiciary in a sarcastic way that carried an abuse for one of the important authorities in the country, and it is the judicial authority
The Forum added that the sentences which was issued yesterday against 16 citizens for attempting burn a security patrol belonging to the Ministry of Interior, proves again the non-independence of the judiciary from the executive authority and the lack of these trials to the international standards for a fair trial, adding that the persistence of these trials in Bahrain, contributes to undermine the law and renders the independent and integral fairness in the judicial authority elusive
The Forum considered that the subordination of the judiciary in Bahrain to the command of the political authority poses a threat to the safety and security of citizens, especially after the sentences issued against the accused individuals exceeded 50 years as the case of the detainee, Ali Akbar, in which his total sentence reached 59 years in multiple cases
The Forum called the UN Special Rapporteur of fair trials to visit Bahrain to determine the conditions of the trials and the circumstances of litigation, particularly in how to extract confessions and to ensure the rights of the accused, especially to meet with lawyers
