Prisoners of Conscience in Bahrain’s Jau Prison: We will have to go on an open strike if the deteriorating situation is not addressed In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Peace & blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his pure family and companions We, Bahrain’s political detainees, have taken several steps to better the deteriorating situation in Jau Central Prisons for years. On January 8, 2023, we submitted a petition to the prison administration, after which we recorded more than 250 audios, in which we explained the suffering and ill-treatment that violates international laws. However, we did not receive any positive response. As a result, on January 29, we took another step, which is refraining from contacting our families and going out for visits. Until today, February 23, 2023, we are surprised by the unjustified disregard. Therefore, we will continue our movement, following peaceful methods until the just demands, which are guaranteed by local and international law, are met. Today, as more than a month has passed since we submitted our petition, we inform everyone concerned - locally and internationally, popularly and officially, and all international rights organisations, along with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN international rapporteurs - that we will be compelled to go on an indefinite strike if the situation continued as it was. We hold the authority responsible for the safety of political prisoners, after we have despaired of the policy of procrastination, lack of response, the absence of the language of reason and dialogue, and the falsification of facts by official institutions such as the National Institution for Human Rights and the Ombudsman.
