Among them is the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights.. 99 coalition, network, human rights organization condemn the military coup in Sudan It salutes the Sudanese people for standing up to its overthrow and bringing the putschists to justice It appeals to the United Nations and the European Union not to recognize it The undersigned human rights organizations condemn the Sudanese army’s seizure of power in the country, warning of the consequences of squandering the human rights and civil gains achieved by the Sudanese people with the launch of the peaceful popular movement in December 2018. Before the end of his term of presidency and handing over the presidency to the civilian component, the head of the Sovereign Council in Sudan, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, dissolved the government and the Sovereignty Council, declaring a state of emergency, suspending seven articles of the constitution, and dissolved the committees running trade unions and professional associations. This is considered to be the use of military force to control power, and an act of a coup described in the constitutional document signed between the civil and military components in July 2019 and regulating the interim period that will be followed by the holding of legislative and presidential elections. The signatories strongly condemn the repression of demonstrations condemning the coup and the Sudanese army’s use of excessive force, which, according to Sudanese medical sources, led to dozens of civilian casualties, killed or wounded. While the undersigned salute the bravery of the Sudanese people in the peaceful response to this brutal military coup, and express their great confidence in the ability of the Sudanese people to bring it down, they demand the release of members of the Sovereignty Council, Cabinet, politicians, and civil society activists, who were arrested by the coup forces, as well as, stopping restricting access to the Internet and the stifling freedom of expression and the media. The undersigned appreciate the refusal of the African Union to recognize the authority of the coup forces and call on the European Union and the United Nations to take the same position, and encourage them to: First: Demanding the leadership of the Sudanese army to reverse this coup and apologize to the Sudanese people. Second: Not recognizing the military coup and the customary measures that followed, and taking every measure that would support the Sudanese people to restore the democratic transitional phase, prevent the return of authoritarian and totalitarian rule, protect human rights, and achieve freedom, peace, and justice. Third: The military coup forces will not go unpunished for the crimes they have committed against civilians in and outside Sudan since General Al-Bashir's coup in 1989 to the present day.
