Executive Session of 4th International Conference Urges Just Trial for Sheikh Ali Salman
The executive session of the 4th International Human Rights Conference was held on Wednesday in Beirut, headed by the Tunisian activist Dr. Zuhair Makhloof, to address the legal situation in Bahrain.
The trial of Sheikh Ali Salman, Secretary General of Al-Wefaq Bahraini opposition group, which coincided with the conference, was the main issue that has been tackled during the session, in addition to the just trials, depriving the political opposition figures of their citizenship, and human rights violations in Jaww central prison.
Member of Tunisian Parliament Zuhair Maghzawi addressed the attendees expressing beliefs that the cause of Bahraini people is a just cause from a Tunisian perspective, stating that his people are following what is going on in Bahrain regarding the freedom of press and freedom of law.
"We tried to be a voice for Bahrain to call for freedom and justice," he said, highlighting the torture that the political detainees are suffering inside the al-Khalifa jails.
For his part, the Bahraini lawyer Ibrahim Sarhan pointed at the "significant trial of Sheikh Ali Salman" that coincides with the conference, stating that "elements of justice are absent while the free media have been banned from attending the trial."
Sahan expressed hopes that the Bahraini court would listen carefully to the popular demands and would present a real image about the breaching taking place in Bahrian.
The lawyer said that his country is passing in a state of fear and anxiety due to the February 14, 2012 revolution.
Under the title of "Absence of Justice: Jaww Prison and Sheikh Ali Salman Trial: a Case Study," the Egyptian expert in criminal law Yasser Shazli, stressed that "Sheikh Salman's case lacks a just trial, which means that any decision by the court would be non-valuable.
Shazli also addressed the situation in Jaww central prison whether regarding harrasement against parents of detainees or with respect to the bad circumstances that they suffer. "What is happening in Jaww belongs to criminal and international crime," he said.
The two-day 4th International Conference is organized by the Bahraini Forum for Human Rights in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, where various figures and personalities are participating.
