BFHR: Security authorities force activist Ali Muhanna to sign a pledge not to demonstrate in solidarity with prisoners of conscience The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights (BFHR) said that the security authorities forced activist and educator, Ali Muhanna, to sign a pledge not to participate in peaceful gatherings calling for the release of prisoners of conscience. That occurred after he was arbitrarily arrested by security forces wearing civilian clothes on the evening of November 21, 2021 from the street near the traffic lights in Al-Daih. The BFHR pointed out that activist Muhanna had previously been harassed for exercising his right to peaceful assembly. He was summoned seven times this year as follows: 1- In April due to demanding the release of prisoners of conscience during his participation in the protests in Sanabis. 2- In May, after he posted tweets about visiting Jau Central Prison. 3- In June, due to publishing a video of his speech in the protest that took place at the grave of the victim of deliberate health negligence in prisons, Hussein Barakat. 4- In September due to participating in a protest in Sanabis. 5- In October, when he was arrested and then released under the pretext of “the intention to participate in a march rejecting normalization with the occupation entity in Ras Rumman.” 6- At the end of October to force him to pledge not to participate in the protests in Sanabis again. 7- In November to force him again to pledge not to participate in the protests in Sanabis. About being arbitrarily taken to the police station yesterday, Muhanna said, "Yesterday, I was in my car, and suddenly the car in front of me and the one on my left side stopped. Then, men came out screaming and surrounded my car. Some of them rode with me, and the street was closed. I thought they were criminals who wanted to kill or rob me, then I was surprised when one of them said I am a policeman. I say... If they had called, I would have gone to them like every time, so what is the message here?" It is worth noting that activist Ali Muhanna is the father of the detained prisoner of conscience, Hussein Muhanna, who was wounded by shotgun pellets in the foot, and who still suffers complications from the injury. |
